As difficult as it is for many of us to do, we recognise that getting final closure in any relationship is helpful to us in the long term. It provides a sense of finality that can be crucial for personal growth and the ability to form new relationships in the future.
Saying a final goodbye and agreeing to move on, whether it be in a romantic relationship, work situation or in a friendships, requires courage and inner strength. It helps emotional healing, making it possible to move past a significant life event or relationship.
Fear Of Closure
Fear of closure and hanging on to the past with rose- tinted glasses can prevent us from fully embracing a new life and finding greater fulfilment. There are few common reasons we fear closure and it is worth working through these if these persists. We are coming to the end of the year and the beginning of a New Year, it may be worth considering how to best manage a closure you are struggling with.
Fearing the Unknown can lead us to feel lonely and scared about what the future holds for us. New beginnings can be uncertain, we are more comfortable with is familiar to us rather than risking change.
Loss of Identity can be experienced as closure can mean a reassessment of one’s identity and this can be a daunting process.
Unresolved Issues within relationships can leave feelings of resentment and conflict. There may still be a feeling of unfinished business.
Attachment to Past Experiences, however negative, can create a reluctance to letting go and moving on and a fear of not finding anything better in the future.
